Key points
- On 2 October 2026 Argentina's Ministry of Economy announced the launch of a citizenship-by-investment programme. It said the programme will be operational to receive applications during the fourth quarter of 2026.
- The ministry describes two routes: a non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury, or subscription of a public security created for the programme. Spouses and children may apply with their own prescribed contributions.
- Under Decree 524/2025, a dedicated Agency assesses each application and consults security, financial-intelligence and other bodies. The National Directorate of Migration (DNM) then grants or refuses citizenship.
- Argentina's Public Prosecutor's Office reported on 2 July 2026 that the National Electoral Chamber had declared the underlying decree, DNU 366/2025, null in a citizenship case.
What the Ministry of Economy announced
On 2 October 2026 Argentina’s Ministry of Economy announced the launch of a Citizenship by Investment Programme. It said the programme “will be operational to receive applications during the fourth quarter of 2026”. The ministry described:
- two routes: a non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury, or subscription of a public security created for the programme;
- the main applicant’s spouse and children may apply with their own prescribed contributions;
- all funds must pass through the formal financial system and meet anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing standards;
- due-diligence, financial-transparency and risk-management standards “aligned with the recommendations of the OECD and FATF”.
The release sets out contribution amounts. We do not reproduce them while the programme is not open; read them on the official page.
How decisions are made
Decree 524/2025 sets the procedure. The Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión decides whether an investment counts as “relevant”. It then asks security, financial-intelligence (UIF), criminal-records, civil-registry and intelligence (SIDE) bodies whether granting citizenship could be a risk. It sends a recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration (DNM), which grants or refuses citizenship by reasoned decision. The ministry says checks cover identity, the lawful origin of funds, financial and asset analysis, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational background, and immigration history.
A court has questioned the legal basis
The programme rests on changes made by emergency decree DNU 366/2025. On 2 July 2026 Argentina’s Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that the National Electoral Chamber had declared DNU 366/2025 null in a citizenship case. The chamber held that the decree exceeded the executive’s constitutional powers. On 21 October 2026 we had not found a Supreme Court decision on the matter.
What this does not mean
The programme is not currently open, and we found no official application channel on 21 October 2026. We do not market this programme. This piece is not legal, tax or immigration advice.
What this does not mean
- It does not mean the programme is open. On 21 October 2026 we found no official application channel.
- It does not mean the legal basis is settled; we have not found a Supreme Court decision on the electoral chamber's ruling.
- It is not an offer or recommendation. Beyond Borders does not market this programme.
